What is a hair Pomade?

Hair pomade is historically a greasy, waxy, or a water-based substance that is used to style hair. Pomade generally gives the user’s hair a shiny and slick appearance but we are going to visit more contemporary products which aim for a matte effect. Pomade generally lasts longer than most hair care products, often requiring multiple washes to completely remove if not high quality and water soluble.

There are two major types of pomade; petroleum based and water based. Petroleum based pomades are the original kind. They are made with real grease and fatty ingredients to produce the shine and hold. Water based pomades are water soluble making them easier to wash out of the hair than actual grease. These are typically also better for the health of the scalp but some just prefer to stick with old school, greasy classics. Pomades are meant for those that want to achieve slick, neat and shiny dos and especially for styles like the pomp, quiff or ducktail. Unlike gels, this product does not dry out and will not harden on the hair. Holds tight but remains pliable.

How to use hair pomade?
  1. Step 1 – Prepare the hair. Make sure your hair is clean and free of any product residue. …
  2. Step 2 – Use a pea-sized amount. This is so simple, yet so important! …
  3. Step 3 – Evenly distribute into the palms of your hands. …
  4. Step 4 – Style your hair. …
  5. Step 5 – Fix or finish your hair, use a comb or brush for neater styles.

Our 2020 best Pomade for men?

First off, lets address the debate. Water based VS original petroleum based pomades. Hands down we are 100% pro water based pomades. Not only healthier for you but we personally find the fatty “real grease” stuff a bit disgusting never mind then having to apply it to your hair. Therefore all of our selections for best ranked are water soluble.
